The Barack Obama transition team web site Change.com has given a strong signal that the new USA administration is serious about the Creative Commons Framework.
In a move which the trasition team hopes 'will champion the creation of a more open, transparent, and participatory government' Change.gov has adopted a new copyright policy. All the website content now falls under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License:

Visitors to this website agree to grant a non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to the rest of the world for their submissions to Change.gov under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License.”

This is great news, and shows promise for the future. But we are still struggling with library parent bodies who don't 'get'creative commons and insist on corporate controls including rigid copyright on library websites. I fear there is a long way to go.
